Terms of Service

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create and own a household — that includes inviting other members and managing that household's subscription and payments through Stripe. Members invited to join an existing household do not need to meet this age requirement themselves.

Accounts and approval

Creating an account requires an email address and password. New accounts are reviewed before they can sign in — your sign-up request is held pending approval, and we may approve or reject it at our discretion. If a request is rejected, the account is removed. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

Households

Every household has an owner — by default, whoever created it. Only the owner can rename the household, remove other members, transfer ownership to another member, manage or cancel the household's subscription, and delete the household. Any member, including the owner, can leave a household on their own, except that the owner must transfer ownership to another member first if other members remain.

Budget data within a household — income, categories, expenses, receipts, and autopay entries — is visible to every member of that household. Deleting a household permanently removes all of its data and cannot be undone.

Subscriptions and billing

brokey offers Free, Plus, and Pro plans with different household member limits and AI receipt-scan allowances. Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Only the household owner can start, change, or cancel a subscription, which is done through Stripe's billing portal from within the app.

If a subscription lapses or is canceled, the household's plan reverts to Free, and features limited to paid plans (such as autopay and AI receipt scanning) become unavailable until the household upgrades again. We don't control Stripe's payment processing or refund handling directly — refer to the receipt/invoice from Stripe for your specific charges.

AI receipt scanning

On Plus and Pro plans, you can photograph a receipt and have it read automatically using Anthropic's Claude API, which returns a suggested merchant, amount, date, and category. This is provided for convenience only — it can misread or fail to process a receipt, and you're responsible for reviewing and correcting any expense before relying on it. Each plan includes a limited number of scans per household per month.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use brokey for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these terms.
• Attempt to access another household's data or bypass the app's access controls.
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the Service.
• Use the Service to submit content you don't have the right to share (for example, receipts or images belonging to someone else without their consent).

Your data

Our Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how it's shared within a household, and how it's protected. It's part of these terms.

Termination

You can stop using brokey at any time by leaving or deleting your household. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for any account that violates these terms.

Disclaimers

brokey is a budgeting tool, not a financial, tax, or investment adviser. Figures, categorizations, and AI-read receipt data are provided as-is and may contain errors; you're responsible for verifying them before making financial decisions. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, brokey and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including errors in budget data, expense records, or AI-read receipt information.

Changes to these terms

If we make a meaningful change to these terms, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use brokey after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States.
